This MGA 1600 MK II was brought in on a trailer today. The car belongs to Jon Lindenbaum of Muskegon, Michigan. The last time this car saw regular road use was over 15 years ago! We are going to do a complete lubrication, and after that we will possibly be doing the interior and top.

Here we have two TD/c Mark IIs parked next to each other. The one on the left is a 1953 and belongs to Bill Hirsch. Mr. Hirsch has owned the car for a year, and he purchased it from a family friend who had owned the car for 47 years! The one on the right is a 1952 and belongs to Dave Cooper. Mr. Cooper has owned the car for 40 years! What makes a TD/c so special? A TD/c has four extra Andrex shocks, 1 1/2" carburetors (same as TFs), a bubble on the right-hand side bonnet, and only about 1,800 were produced! Two of these models parked next to each other is a rare occurrence! Our three part series about the Zenith Stromberg carburetor!

Mr. Teeple's 1977 MGB came to us with bad motor mounts. As you can see from the pictures above, the rubber on one of the mounts has separated from the metal. However, this is not the only place motor mounts can go bad! It is common among MGBs from 1977 1/2 to 1980 to have the metal engine bracket tear. The solution is to weld gussets at the start of the tear.

John, Caroline, and their son James are in Sonoma, California this week for the NAMGBR event. As you can see, work at the shop will continue in their absence! Above, Greg is doing some minor brake work to a 1955 TF. Below that we have a 1938 TA.

John has been working feverishly to sort out the wiring on Mr. McRitchie's supercharged 1979 MGB. We have deduced that the head lamp circuit burned up, the column switch failed, and many of the wires shorted out. What a rare occurrence! While we're correcting the wiring problems, we're adding circuits for under bonnet illumination and a rev limiter.

-786305.JPG) The black pieces above are from this 1977 MGB that was brought to us with clutch problems. We determined that these black pieces, which we believe to be part of the clutch hose, were the source of the problem. The pieces sloughed out of the clutch hose and into the clutch slave cylinder where they impeded the free flow of brake fluid causing the clutch to over-throw. A very unique problem indeed! Greg was telling us that last night he was watching a show on A&E about the Kinks, and how they always arrived to shows in a Sunbeam Alpine. Just as Greg finished his story, a Sunbeam Alpine pulled into the shop's parking lot!

Today John is working on a beautiful 1964 Triumph TR4 that belongs to Mr. Scolnik. The car has a special history for the owner; he proposed to his wife in the TR4! Mr. Scolnik had since sold the car, but about 12 years ago was given the chance to purchase the car back for twice what he sold it for! The car was recently redone, and it is in the shop for some mechanical work. Our latest YouTube video on how to properly close a MGB bonnet can be seen here:

That is correct! We do service the new Mini Cooper. Here we have Curt working on a Mini Cooper S. The car belongs to Mr. Vanderploeg, a local attorney, and prior to the Mini he owned a Big Healey. The car came to us with a problematic cooling system which we determined was a leak in the radiator. University Motors is now on YouTube! We will be posting videos of John answering common technical questions that are best answered by video. Our first two videos can be seen here:

A rare Mark II TD has found its way onto Casey's hoist today. We believe that the car last was on the road in 1980. The car belongs to Bill Hirsch who purchased it from Sam Baker. John knew Bill Hirsch's father before coming to Grand Rapids; John's relationship to both the car and Bill's father dates back to 1972!
